BIO

Torfinnur Jákupsson is a Faroese screenwriter, showrunner, and executive producer working across the Nordics, UK, and wider European markets. He is the creator of TROM, the first-ever Faroese television drama, an award-winning eco-crime series that sold internationally and helped put the Faroe Islands on the global scripted map.

With a background spanning journalism, music, and film, Torfinnur brings a sharp investigative lens and distinctive creative voice to his storytelling, often exploring the intersection of environment, power, and identity. His work is rooted in grounded, character-driven narratives with a strong sense of place, blending Nordic noir with international scope.

He is the founder of GRÓ Studios in the Faroe Islands and Red Herring Story in the UK, where he develops a slate of premium scripted and unscripted projects, often structured as international co-productions. Through GRÓ, he is also actively contributing to building a sustainable film and television infrastructure in the Faroes, working across development, production, and IP.

His work and projects have been selected for leading international programmes and markets, including the EAVE Producers Workshop, ACE Series Special, TV Drama Vision at Göteborg Film Festival, Content London, and Co-Pro Series/Drama Series Days at the Berlinale Series Market.

Torfinnur is an alumnus of the Zurich Film Festival Masterclass, EAVE Producers Workshop, ACE Series Special, and Running the Show with Jeff Melvoin and John Yorke. He is also a founding member of the Faroese Producers Alliance (Filmsvinnuráðið), working to strengthen the professional framework and international positioning of the Faroese screen industry.

Alongside his creative work, Torfinnur is available for speaking and industry engagements, and has presented at festivals, markets, and universities on storytelling, international co-production, and first-time showrunning, including programmes such as Showrunning Forensics by MediaXchange and the Eureka Series programme at the Series Mania Institute.

He is a member of the Royal Television Society and BAFTA.

His work is driven by a commitment to building sustainable storytelling from smaller territories, creating stories that resonate globally while remaining culturally authentic.
